He likes pressing Naruto into the ground. Grass, by choice, or the forest floor. Once or twice into a flowerbed under the cover of fighting that wasn’t so much of a cover as a different way of fucking.

It’s all touch. Violence, or sex, is understandable.

(Fighting Naruto is a waste of time and energy. It’s messy and pointless and he just. Can’t quite stop himself from doing it.)

(Sex with Naruto is also a waste of time and energy, also messy and pointless. It doesn’t accomplish anything, doesn’t make him stronger, doesn’t get him closer to his goal, doesn’t even –and this, to Sasuke’s mind, is the really unfair thing—doesn’t even stop the stupid pointless hormonal craving for more than 30 seconds.)


And- it would be easy to get Naruto to fall in love with him, or something close to it. Naruto doesn’t have a clue when it comes to people. All Sasuke would have to do would be to smile at him, tell Naruto he wasn’t a complete waste of space. Naruto was

(He’s pretty sure he’s not the only one that’s had this thought. Something about Naruto draws the superior, deeply screwed up ones. He’s pretty sure that the reason Neiji hasn’t tried anything is out of courtesy to Sasuke, out of respect for his and Naruto’s “relationship”, which makes him think that the byakugen doesn’t see as well as it should. There is no relationship. Just this thing.)


This is also unfair; nothing he does seems to affect Naruto for any length of time.

This goes beyond the bruises and bites and hickeys (he hates that word, but refuses point-blank to think of them as love-bites) and scratches that he gives Naruto, more or less accidentally (incidentally). It’s more to do with the very deliberate choice of words he uses to insult Naruto. It’s to do with the way he ignores him in public, says things that are honest and hurtful. Punches hard enough during practise that Naruto can tell he sincerely wants to hurt him.

And then it’s gone. Naruto is Naruto, no less or more happy. Going through life as if everything in was normal. He shrugs off the pain, or accepts it, or something, and it just doen’t bother him. He still hates Sasuke, even, in that loud, Sasuke-is-my-rival-I-am-so-much-better-than-him-even-if-he-beats-me-in-everything. It’s the same as it always was. Nothing Sasuke can do can turn it into that other kind of hate, the kind that comes when someone you respected (worshipped) betrays you. The kind of hate that comes from pain from someone you didn’t expect and leaves you with only that, forever, even after the object of that hatred is gone.

Naruto’s hate is fierce and temporary and over when it’s over.
(Sasuke sometimes thinks Naruto doesn’t hate like that, like he does, because Naruto will never be betrayed like that. That Naruto is so used to the everyday hurtful things people says to him, he doesn’t expect anything else. It’s just—normal. Unsurprising.)


naruto wants respect, but isn’t surprised when he doesn’t get it. Sasuke’s contempt is meaningless. Naruto doesn’t even to see it most fo the time.

Sasuke wants him to recognise it. He wants to tell him that this isn’t love, it’s not affection or fondness or anything, and Naruto has business acting happy about it.

When Sasuke touches himself, he closes his eyes and pictures Naruto’s grin. Imagines it on his own face.
